When my alarm goes off in the morning, I’m not dreading the day ahead – I’m genuinely optimistic. I know there’s a chance I’ll make someone’s day a little brighter, whether it’s sharing a laugh with one of our regular patients, helping a colleague navigate a busy schedule, or having a heartfelt chat with an elderly patient who may not get much human interaction.
Every day at Distinctly Dental is an opportunity to care for people, patients and colleagues alike, in ways that go far beyond cleanings, fillings, and check-ups.
By the time I arrive, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee already fills the air. The team is setting up for the first session, and we gather for our morning coffee and catch-up. Sometimes we’ll talk through a patient’s specific needs and plan how to make their visit as comfortable and personal as possible. Other mornings, we simply share stories from our lives. Because here, it’s not just about teeth – it’s about people.
When the first patient walks through the door, we greet them by name – because we know them. We remember the stories from their last visit, their grandchildren’s names, and whether they like listening to the radio or prefer the calm of quiet during treatment. It’s a small detail, but it’s what turns a visit into a personal experience.
My day is a mix of roles. I might be at reception welcoming arrivals, in the office working on the schedule, or popping into a treatment room to lend a hand. Wherever I am, the focus is never on rushing, it’s on listening. Sometimes that means explaining a treatment step-by-step; other times, it’s taking a few extra minutes to reassure someone who’s nervous. Dentistry can be intimidating, but our mission is to make it a positive and even uplifting experience.
Between patients, you’ll hear laughter drifting through the practice. We celebrate small wins, brainstorm ways to improve care, and take pride in moments like helping someone smile confidently for the first time in years.
By the time the last patient leaves, we may be tired, but it’s the good kind of tired, the kind that comes from knowing we’ve made a difference.
